Symmetry Park Doncaster

Large-scale storage and distribution space

Elite Roof and Wall systems were chosen to create aesthetically pleasing, yet functional, buildings

Symmetry Park

The Project

Symmetry Park in Doncaster is the latest large-scale development project from the development team at Tritax Symmetry. Strategically positioned next to J34 A1 (M) and Blyth Services, the development offers high quality storage and distribution space ideally located to serve the North of England and the Midlands.

The 54 acre site has planning consent for 721,000sq ft of B8 building use and is being developed in phases, with phases one and two completed by Euroclad, and the third was completed by the end of 2023.

Phase 2 is the largest of all the buildings at 430,000sq ft and was pre-let as a distribution centre to B&Q.

The Challenge

Tritax Symmetry prides itself on being at the forefront of best practice with its environmental and sustainable policies and practices. Its low carbon agenda focuses on achieving net zero carbon construction for its developments and it sets itself the highest standards to achieve.

Euroclad recognises the importance of sustainable construction and strives to manufacture the most environmentally responsible products possible, adopting a continuous improvement approach that acts as a benchmark for the industry.

With these shared environmental goals in common, Euroclad and Tritax Symmetry have worked closely for a number of years on projects right across the UK. The Euroclad team has a strong understanding of Tritax’s objectives and the role its products play in achieving the very best performance from each of its building.

Symmetry Park Doncaster was the first project for the Euroclad team under the new agreement. Having supplied the first, smaller building in phase 1, the challenge for Euroclad was to replicate the high quality and performance figures achieved in the new phase 2 building to ensure the success of the new agreement and secure future projects.

The Action

In order to meet the performance criteria, the Elite 2 Range trapezoidal system was chosen for the building’s roof. The built-up metal Elite 2 Range system is a popular roofing solution for large-scale developments. It is extremely design friendly and ideal for curved buildings, giving architects more flexibility to create aesthetically pleasing, yet functional, buildings.

Euroclad’s Elite Systems’ flexibility also delivers on performance, making it easier to achieve specified air tightness, sound reduction and thermal performances in accordance with building regulations and client specifications.

41,000m² of Elite 2 Range system with a 200mm thickness was used on the roof in Anthracite Grey colour, giving a sleek, modern aesthetic to the large-scale building that dominates the park. The system was manufactured ‘solar ready’ allowing the developers to mount PV panels with ease once construction was complete.

For the walls, two high quality metal built-up systems from Euroclad were chosen in different colours to add interest and contrast to the side of the building.

12,000m² of Elite 51 Range was used in Alaska Grey and 140mm thickness. Elite 51 Range is an adaptable vertical cladding system.

3,000m² of Elite 55 Range in 140mm thickness was also used on the walls in a Goosewing Grey, adding accent colour whilst also contributing to the performance ratings.

Following close collaboration between the appointed sub-contractor UKWS and Euroclad, regular progress meetings, site inspections and monitoring programme restraints, successful delivery of phase 2 was ensured.

The Results

Following the success of Phase 2, Symmetry Park, Doncaster, UKWS, the main contractor and Euroclad were able to negotiate the next phase, securing its agreement with Tritax.

Using Euroclad’s products to achieve the required U-Values, the building was able to achieve its goal of BREEAM ‘Very Good’ and an EPC Rating of A, continuing Tritax’s legacy of delivering sustainable and environmentally responsible buildings for the B8 market.

B&Q agreed a 15-year lease on the building, which will become a seasonal warehouse and distribution centre, allowing them to get the most popular products to B&Q stores faster and more efficiently.
