Collaborative Expertise Delivers Sustainable Logistics Infrastructure at Avonmouth

Working in partnership, Euroclad, Hathaway Roofing and Winvic delivered a resilient, efficient and sustainability-driven logistics facility at Axis Works, Avonmouth. The collaborative approach combined technical excellence, low-carbon delivery solutions and transparent environmental reporting to support the future of UK food distribution.

The Project

Delivered through close collaboration between Euroclad Group and Hathaway Roofing Ltd, working alongside Winvic Construction Ltd, the new 36,000m² high-specification logistics facility for Stoford Developments at Axis Works, Avonmouth represents investment in the future resilience and efficiency of the client's supply chain. Recognised as one of the UK’s most strategically important distribution locations, the scheme has been designed to support the long-term operational performance of the client's network.

Targeting BREEAM Excellent and EPC A ratings, the development embeds sustainability from the outset. Every component, material and construction methodology was evaluated to reduce environmental impact and to deliver a building envelope with defined thermal performance and clearly stated system characteristics.

Euroclad supplied the complete roof and wall cladding systems, with Hathaway responsible for leading the coordination and delivery of the complete building envelope package in alignment with the project’s technical and environmental objectives.

Sector: Distribution

Location: Avonmouth, UK

The Challenge

Stoford Developments required a building envelope solution capable of delivering reliable operational performance while contributing meaningfully to ambitious carbon and environmental targets. Material transparency, responsible sourcing and low-carbon logistics were identified as key priorities from the early design stages.

For the delivery team, the challenge was not only to meet programme and performance requirements, but to demonstrate measurable environmental benefits across manufacturing, transport and on-site installation.

The Solution

Working in close partnership, Euroclad Group and Hathaway developed and delivered a coordinated envelope solution that aligned programme certainty with performance and sustainability goals.

Euroclad supplied 33,200m² of the Roof Elite 1 PLUS system and 16,100m² of wall cladding, utilising a combination of the Elite 51 and Elite 55 trapezoidal systems. These systems were selected for their proven thermal performance, structural spanning capability and long-term durability, ensuring compliance with project performance requirements while supporting installation efficiency.

Hathaway led the coordination, installation sequencing and on-site management of the full envelope package, ensuring high standards of quality, safety and programme control throughout.

The wall systems achieve a minimum of 120 minutes’ integrity and 15 minutes’ insulation when tested in accordance with BS 476-22:1987, providing assured fire performance in line with specification requirements.

Sustainability Highlight

To further support the project’s sustainability objectives, Euroclad and Hathaway partnered with FSEW to facilitate electric vehicle delivery routes from the Cardiff manufacturing facility to the Avonmouth site. This initiative forms part of Euroclad’s wider Planet Passionate programme and represents a proactive step in reducing transport-related emissions.

A key sustainability outcome was achieved through Hathaway’s transition from diesel to electric trucks for material transportation. Emissions savings were calculated based on the equivalent energy required to charge the vehicles’ batteries over the distance travelled, using Electricity factors from the UK Government GHG Conversion Factors (2025). This change resulted in an estimated reduction of 1,790.52 tCO2e, representing a significant carbon saving within the A4 lifecycle stage through the use of lower-emission logistics. These figures represent indicative carbon savings, as calculated by Winvic, and are intended to demonstrate the potential impact of this initiative.

In parallel, Hathaway Roofing implemented site-based sustainability measures, including the use of HVO fuel across plant and machinery to reduce carbon emissions during installation. The team also engaged in a pallet return service to divert timber waste from landfill, supporting circular economy principles and contributing to the project’s waste reduction targets.

Euroclad’s recyclable packaging further supported efficient waste segregation on site, assisting the project in achieving its recycling and diversion targets.

Sharing Environmental Data Across the Supply Chain

A key enabler of accurate carbon reporting on the project was the transparent sharing of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) across the supply chain. Making verified product data accessible to all project partners ensured that:

• Embodied carbon for materials could be accurately quantified

• Specification decisions aligned with sustainability objectives

• Design and procurement teams could make informed choices at an early stage

• A consistent carbon reporting methodology was adopted across contributing trades

This collaborative, data-driven approach strengthened the integrity of environmental reporting and reinforced shared responsibility for reducing impact across the supply chain.

Sustainability Credentials

Euroclad’s manufacturing contribution is underpinned by robust sustainability and responsible sourcing accreditations, including:

• EcoVadis Silver Medal (awarded December 2025) for ESG performance

• BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing certification in accordance with BSI Certification – Cert No. BES637885

These credentials complement the project’s wider sustainability strategy, which includes rainwater harvesting, roof-mounted photovoltaic panels, LED lighting and additional measures designed to reduce operational carbon.

The Outcome

Upon completion in Summer 2026, the Axis Works logistics facility will play a pivotal role in modernising the client's distribution network.

The coordinated efforts of Hathaway Roofing and Euroclad Group have delivered a robust and efficient building envelope that combines durability, fire compliance and thermal efficiency with measurable sustainability benefits.

From responsible manufacturing and low-carbon transport to site-based carbon reduction measures and transparent embodied carbon reporting, the project demonstrates how collaborative supply chain partnerships can deliver industrial buildings that meet rigorous modern standards for efficiency, performance and environmental responsibility.
