Main Purpose of Role:

The Shift supervisor is a member of the Operations Team reporting directly to the Plant Manager. The Shift supervisor is accountable and responsible for plant production including quality control, protection of equipment, departmental cost control, with joint responsibility with appointed persons for managing departmental safety, environmental controls and development of production employees.


  • Fill in the shift reports on the determined KPI’s
  • Monitor output to ensure targets are being met and delivery and customer service requirements are being satisfied
  • Development of production teams to improve versatility and effectiveness
  • Inspect products to verify conformance to specifications
  • Enforce standards of workplace organisation and housekeeping to maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
  • Establishes and/or adjusts Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to meet production, quality and H&S targets
  • Recommends and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product
  • Suggests and implements changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of equipment and/or or workforce
  • Analyses and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems
  • Responsible for the welcoming of new employees at the production line

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • Supervises employees within Production
  • Provide a positive ‘can do’ approach to management, whilst leading the team by example
  • Ensure safety rules and standards are complied with at all times through regular monitoring and audits
  • Report of Accidents and Dangerous Occurrences (near misses) in order that appropriate action can be taken
  • Report environmental incidents (leaks & spills) and take immediate action to prevent pollution
  • Ongoing review of operator skill competency via use of training matrix to ensure training and development needs
  • Provide supportive management to coach, develop and motivate their team
  • Is responsible for the overall coordination and evaluation of manufacturing output
  • Address complaints, resolve problems and mitigate future occurrences
